AI visibility for local businesses: does ChatGPT recommend you?

In 2026 your customers ask AI assistants for recommendations, and the assistants answer with names. Respondyr measures whether yours is one of them: your real buyer questions, run across ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude, multiple times each, scored as frequencies with the sources the engines actually cited. Then we tell you exactly what to change. Offered as a measured service; ask us for a scan.

How the measurement works

  • We build a set of buyer-intent questions for your business and market, and you approve it. That set becomes the standard your visibility is measured against.
  • Each question runs against each engine several times, because a single answer is noise: identical questions produce different names run to run.
  • You get share of voice: how often you are named versus who is named instead, per engine, with every number carrying its sample size.
  • We capture which websites the engines cited while answering. Those sources are the map of what to fix.

The prescription, not just the score

A score without a to-do list is trivia. The deliverable is the ranked list of what determines your visibility: whether AI crawlers can even read your site, the directories and roundup pages the engines actually cite in your category, your review volume and response coverage (a trust signal the engines weigh, and the part Respondyr already handles), and the content on your own site that answers buyer questions directly.

Backlink gap scoring

We map every site linking to your competitors but not to you, filter to real sites with real authority, and resolve each one to the specific page and link. What you get is a prioritized earned-media target list: who to contact, about which page, with what reason. It is the difference between "improve your backlinks" and a call sheet.

The honest part

Nobody controls what an AI assistant says, including us, and the engines change their behavior week to week. What can be controlled is the evidence they draw on, and what can be promised is honest measurement of whether it is working. Every number we report states how it was measured. If a vendor quotes you an AI visibility score without a sample size, ask them what happens when they run it twice.

Common questions

Why does AI visibility matter for a local business?

Because buyers now ask ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude the questions they used to type into Google, and the assistants name specific businesses in their answers. If they never name yours, that pipeline is invisible to you. Measuring it is the first step.

How is this different from a free "AI visibility checker"?

One-shot checkers are noise: the same question asked twice can name different businesses. We run your real buyer questions multiple times across multiple engines and report frequencies, with the sample sizes stated. Statistics, not a screenshot.

What do I get from a scan?

Whether and how often each engine names you for the questions your buyers ask, who gets named instead, which sources the engines actually cited, and a prescription: the specific, prioritized fixes that determine whether you show up.

What is backlink gap scoring?

We map the sites that link to your competitors but not to you, filter out the junk, and rank what is left by authority and relevance. The result is a concrete earned-media target list instead of "get more backlinks" advice.
