Features / Rank tracking
Local rank tracking on a real map, not a single point.
Respondyr measures your Google Maps rank at 49 points across a 4 mile grid around your business, for up to 10 tracked search terms, and re-measures weekly on the Business plan. The result is a heatmap of where customers find you and where a competitor gets the call instead. If what we do is working, you watch the map change instead of taking our word for it.
How the sweep works
- A 7 by 7 grid, 49 measurement points, spanning 4 miles edge to edge around your location.
- Up to 10 tracked search terms per location: suggested from what you actually sell, and always yours to edit.
- Service-area businesses sweep their real service-area metros instead of a grid.
- Every plan gets a baseline snapshot at connect. Business re-measures weekly, so trends are real.
- A sweep reads the map. It never writes to your Business Profile.
Why 4 miles and not 10
Google's local ranking is dominated by proximity. Measure far enough out and every result says the same thing: someone closer won. A tight grid measures the fight you can actually win, and your money is not spent buying noise. Regional categories that genuinely draw from farther out can get a wider span on request.
The loop with everything else
Rank is the scoreboard for the rest of the product. Answer your reviews, grow review volume with Get Reviews, approve profile improvements, and then watch the grid to see whether it moved. Rank tracking is also where our measurement is heading next: we are extending visibility tracking beyond Google Maps to AI assistants, because in 2026 "where do you rank" includes what ChatGPT says. Common questions
Why measure a grid instead of just searching once?
Because your rank is not one number. Google's local results change block by block with the searcher's location. One search from your own parking lot tells you almost nothing; 49 points across town show you where you actually win and lose.
Why a 4 mile span?
Because Google's local ranking is proximity-dominated. Points much past 4 miles from the business mostly measure "someone closer wins," which is paying for noise. Wider spans are available on request for genuinely regional categories.
What about service-area businesses with no storefront?
Rank is measured across your actual service-area metros instead of a grid around an address you may not even publish. Your service areas are picked up automatically when you connect.
Does rank tracking ever change my Business Profile?
Never. A sweep is a measurement, full stop. Profile changes only happen through the separate optimization suggestions, which you approve one by one.
